Matt Cavan (formerly Matt Durrant) is a photographer and artist. Matt completed an MA in Photography at Falmouth University in 2021.
Matt takes inspiration from literary sources, including fairytales, folklore and gothic novels to photograph locations which evoke other-worldy scenes, shrouded in magic and mystery.
Part of the reasoning behind this is that photography offers an outlet for Matt to escape when he struggles living with his mental health in the present and can feel truly free in the outward exploring of his imaginations.
Matt uses photography to create these parallel environments, where everything is more than
it seems.
This sense of other-worldliness is what propels Matt into using photography as therapy, as it helps to blur the lines between his subconscious and the outside world.
